NHS POD is a telephone service for patients to call and order their own repeat medication.

Phone: 0121 203 2030

The NHS POD operates from 09:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday, except Bank Holidays. When the NHS POD is closed the patients will hear a recorded message informing them of the opening hours. Request to POD can be also made via email address: [email protected]

Patients will dial into NHS POD to order their repeat prescription, and fully trained staff will access the GP clinical record of the patient to assess and ensure that patients are not over-ordering prescription items, and that they only order items that they require at the time of ordering. Patients can also inform the service of any items they are no longer taking and, therefore, do not need to re-order, ensuring patient safety.

NHS POD staff will produce repeat prescriptions using the GP Practice software (EMIS Web and SystmOne), ensuring that GPs have access to electronic or paper prescriptions for signing within the appropriate timescales.

The service will be functionally integrated with the GP medicines management teams, and it is vital that there is a high degree of acceptability to both patients and GPs. The NHS POD Service and procedure only applies to staff and patients of GP practices that are currently associated to the POD service. It excludes all other patients and GP practices that have not yet joined the NHS POD.

The NHS POD service will not process repeat prescriptions for care home residents and vulnerable patients (i.e. high risk patients), regardless of if the GP practiced has signed up to the NHS POD. These patients and care homes will need to request their prescriptions directly from the GP surgery.

The NHS POD operates from 09:00 to 16:00 Monday to Friday, except Bank Holidays. When the NHS POD is closed the patients will hear a recorded message informing them of the opening hours. Request to POD can be also made via email address: [email protected].
